The most exciting thing for me anyway is the discovery of the distribution of the
gamma-ray bursts in the sky. This was a complete surprise. We had expected that these
flashes of gamma rays were coming from our own galaxy and so we expected to see the
bursts coming along the Milky Way plane as we looked with the BATSE instrument
onboard. What we found instead was that they're coming from all directions in the sky
with equal probability.
