A NEW X-RAY NOVA GRS 1739-278 : THIRD TRANSIENT JET SYSTEM?

ABSTRACT

GRS 1739-278 is a new X-ray nova discovered in Mar. 1996. Forty days after the onset of the X-ray outburst, a radio outburst was observed. Such delayed radio outburst is peculiar to transient jet systems like GRO J1655-40 or GRS 1915+105. Therefore, GRS 1739-278 is suspected to be third transient jet source. If it is a jet system, resonance absorption lines or Doppler-shifted emission lines are expected to be found, as the cases of other ASCA observations of jet systems. We propose a simultaneous observation of GRS 1739-278 with radio to explore its nature. This observation would test the anti-correlation of the X-ray and the radio emission, which is predicted by a jet-supression scenerio, and would be a clue to the mechanism of the resonance absorption detected in the jet systems.
