A NEW-CLASS X-RAY PULSAR: RX1838.4-0301

ABSTRACT

An X-ray Pulsar, RX1838.4-0301, is considered to belong to a new class of X-ray pulsars. It has common features with a new X-ray pulsar 4U0142+614, famous 1E2259+586 and 1E1048.1-5937. Those have about 6s pulse periods with steady spin down, persistent low luminosities of 10^35 erg/s, steep power-law spectra of alpha=3, and associations with SNR. The purpose of this observation is to confirm the ROSAT detection of the 5.45 s pulse, and to obtain a good spectrum to investigate the new class of X-ray pulsars.
