NON-THERMAL X-RAYS FROM THE GALACTIC RIDGE EMISSION

ABSTRACT

We propose to observe the off-plane regions of the Scutum Arm (l = 28) at the latitudes of b = 2--3. From the past observations with ASCA, we have a feeling that there exists another diffuse faint powerlaw-like component in addition to the well-known GRXE thermal component of temperature kT = 3--10 keV. This powerlaw-like component has a trend to extend toward higher latitudes than the thermal component. GINGA also detected a similar "hard tail" component in the Galactic ridge X-ray spectra. Therefore, it is highly possible that the power-like component is the identical with the "hard tail" and thus of non-thermal origin. In order to further discuss the origin of the power-like component, we need off-plane observations at higher latitudes.
