A SEARCH FOR HOT SUPERNOVA REMNANTS IN THE MOLECULAR FLARE NEAR THE GALACTIC CENTER

ABSTRACT

The Galactic center Molecular Flare is a feature which thought to be an evidence for a burst of star formation in the recent past. This contains hundreds or thousands of expanding molecular shells, which may be formed by interaction with supernova remnants (SNRs). We propose deep observations of this Molecular Flare with ASCA satellite to find SNRs hidden behind severe interstellar absorption toward the Galactic center. Since SNRs in high density medium may have high electron temperature (several keV), ASCA is the most suitable instrument for the purpose. The data will provide us the information on the star formation history in our Galactic nucleus, and will advance our understandings on the interaction between SNR and molecular cloud.
