OBSERVATION OF THE NORTHERN GIANT LOBE EDGE OF CENTAURUS A

ABSTRACT

We propose to observe the giant outer lobe of Centaurus A. Of large area of Cen A outer lobes, we selected the edge region of the northern outer lobe, where ROSAT discovered the arc-shaped, rim-brightening X-ray excess. So, we want to determine the origins of this X-ray excess by analyzing the X-ray spectra. At the same time, it is also expected to detect the inverse-Compton X-rays scattering off the CMB photons from the outer lobe itself. By comparing the inverse-Compton X-ray flux and the synchrotron radio flux, we can determine the magnetic field strength in the outer lobe without any assumptions
