METAL DEFICIENCY OF LIGHT ELEMENTS IN GROUP OF GALAXIES

ABSTRACT

ASCA observations of clusters and groups of galaxies revealed that the metal abundance is about 0.3 or lower based on the Fe-K line. On the other hand, the light elements such as Si and S in cluster of galaxies are a little abundant as 0.5, while those of group of galaxies are as low as 0.3. If we assume the same supply of elements to the ICM of clusters and groups, the deficiency of these light elements in groups may be attributed to the loss in shallower potential of groups than clusters. In order to confirm this hypothesis, we propose to observe the group of galaxies RXJ1755.8+6236, which is bright enough to determine the abundance precisely. It makes clear the mechanism of supplying and loosing metal abundance of ICM of group of galaxies.
