OBSERVATION OF NEARBY "BUTCHER-OEMLER" LIKE CLUSTER OF GALAXIES

ABSTRACT

It has been established that distant evolving clusters show remarkably high blue galaxy fraction. These blue galaxies are identified as "active" galaxies showing spiral or irregular morphology. This so called Butcher-Oemler effect suggests galaxies in clusters are in drastic evolution since z around 0.5 epoch. If we accept the assumption that heavy elements in ICM are ejected from cluster galaxies, the evolution of galaxies must affect the ICM enrichment. However observations of such distant clusters can't avoid the selection bias toward X-ray luminous, well-evolved clusters. We propose the nearby BO-like cluster DC0608-33. It has unusual high spiral fraction despite of its richness and compactness, just like distant BO clusters.
