X-RAY OBSERVATION OF COMET HALE-BOPP (C/1995O1)

ABSTRACT

The X-ray emission from comets has been discovered for Comet Hyakutake (C/1996B2) by ROSAT. However, the origin of the X-ray emission is not clear. In order to understand the mechanism, we propose to observe Comet Hale-Bopp (C/1995O1), which will be one of the great comets ever appeared. The proposed dates are October 1 and December 5 after its perihelion passage, when the comet comes into the observable region by the ASCA.
