Subject: SUPERNOVA REMNANTS AND GALACTIC DIFFUSE EMISSION

AN ASCA SURVEY OF ROSAT DETECTED RADIO SUPERNOVA REMNANTS

ABSTRACT

We have come up with a sample of six new Galactic supernova remnants that we propose to survey with ASCA. The selected remnants all show soft X-ray emission according to the ROSAT All Sky Survey. We present evidence that our sample includes pulsar-powered synchrotron nebulae, young ejecta-dominated remnants, and middle-aged adiabatic phase remnants. ASCA's broadband spectral and imaging capabilities will enable us to clearly identify the nature of these sources and study them in detail.
