AN ASCA OBSERVATION OF A RICH CD CLUSTER A2107 IN THE CENTER OF THE HERCULES SUPERCLUSTER

ABSTRACT

We propose a 30 ksec ASCA observation of a rich cD cluster A2107, located in the center of the well-known Hercules supercluster. A2107 is relatively compact, which allows us to map the temperature gradients towards the edge of the cluster. The ASCA spectra will also enable us to study the substructure of the cluster, chemical abundance gradients around the cD, and model the cooling flow and any intrinsic absorption in the central area. Combining the ASCA temperature profile and the ROSAT PSPC data, we will also probe the dark matter distribution in the system. With this observation of A2107, most of the Hercules supercluster will have been mapped by ASCA, which provides us a unique opportunity to study the formation and evolution of this large structure, rich in optical and radio data.
