X-RAY EMISSION FROM PROTOSTAR CANDIDATES IN TAURUS

ABSTRACT

There is little observational information about protostars because they are embedded in dense dust envelope. The hard X-ray can penetrate such dense envelope, therefore observations with ASCA, which has imaging ability and detection sensitivity of hard X-ray, is most effective to investigate directly protostars. In fact, the hard X-ray emission has been detected by ASCA from some protostars, but the emission mechanism has not yet fully understood. To investigate X-ray emission mechanism in protostars, we propose an observation of protostar candidates in Taurus molecular cloud. From the ASCA observation, we can reveal the magnetic activity and the nature of ambient plasma of protostars.
