ASCA OBSERVATIONS OF GALAXY GROUPS IN THE ROSAT SURVAY

ABSTRACT

ASCA has observed several groups of galaxies and detect unusually low metal abundances in their intergalactic gas, however, the most of the ASCA samples are selected from the Hickson's compact groups, which have abnormally high galactic density. To obtain the properties of normal galaxy groups, we propose to observe X-ray selected groups in the ROSAT North Ecliptic Pole Survey. The goals of the observations are to obtain fundamental parameters, gas mass, gravitational mass, temperature, and abundances, to investigate the dynamical and chemical evolution of groups.
