SURVEY OF CLASS I PROTOSTARS WITHIN 200PC

ABSTRACT

Observations of 6 fields containing 16 nearby Class I infrared sources are proposed in order to complete the census of protostars within 200pc. Five fields are in the Taurus-Auriga clouds and one is in the Chamaeleon cloud. Combined with other ASCA images, this study will provide a unique database to correlate X-ray emission with other stellar properties such as age, extinction and outflow orientation. This study should further the understanding of X-ray emission from the youngest stellar objects, which has important implications for protoplanetary disks, protostellar outflows, and star formation regulation
