ASCA AO6 SURVEY OF SMALL RADIO SUPERNOVA REMNANTS

ABSTRACT

We propose to study a sample of the smallest Galactic supernova remnants from the MOST radio catalog. The sample includes both plerionic and shell-like SNRs that are likely to be heavily absorbed by the interstellar medium. The goal of the proposal is to find and study new examples of pulsar-powered synchrotron nebulae and young ejecta-dominated remnants. This proposal relies on the high energy imaging and spectroscopic capabilities of ASCA that allow us to observe at energies above 4 keV where the effects of ISM absorption are not important.
