BROAD BAND X-RAY SPECTRA OF INTERMEDIATE BL LAC OBJECTS

ABSTRACT

The correlation of the ROSAT All-Sky Survey and the Green Bank 5GHz radio survey yielded a large number of intermediate BL Lac objects, a new class of AGN which exhibits spectral energy distributions intermediate between the previously known classes of X-ray and radio-selected BL Lac objects. We propose to observe four of those new BL Lacs with ASCA for 40 ksec each to determine the shape of their X-ray continuum. Information on the hard X-ray properties of this new class of objects is crucial for testing the unified scheme of BL Lac objects and to identify any modifications that may turn out to be necessary.
