AMBIENT PLASMA SURROUNDING A GPS SOURCE OQ 208

ABSTRACT

We propose ASCA observations towards a GPS source OQ 208 to measure column density of ambient plasma and luminosity of free-free emission. In our VSOP observations, we first revealed asymmetric free-free absorption at radio frequency towards double lobes of OQ 208. Small lobe separation of 10 pc indicates this object is at a young stage of evolution. Our results showed that compact double lobes could be embedded in dense plasma. To confirm this, X-ray spectrum is crucial. Comparing the luminosity of free-free emission with radio free-free absorption opacity, electron temperature and density will be derived. We would estimate the size of ambient plasma by column density. We would predict evolution of this object, growth or frustration, by pressure balance between jets and ambient plasma.
