ASCA OBSERVATIONS OF SEVEN SUPERNOVA REMNANTS

ABSTRACT

We request a total of 140-ks of observations of Galactic supernova remnants (SNR) that have not yet been observed systematically at X-ray energies. The remnants are chosen on the basis of select criteria, such a young age and ``composite morphology''. The prime motivation for these observations is to extend ASCA's extremely successful neutron star (/pulsar)- SNR program, and will be backed by a unique ground-based radio effort. We feel that such large projects warrant time at this phase of the mission. If time is granted we are prepared to accept a proprietary period of three months.
