DEEP OBSERVATION OF THE GALACTIC RIDGE X-RAY EMISSION

ABSTRACT

The Galactic Ridge X-ray emission means an unresolved excess of X-ray emission extended along the Galactic plane. It has been known since the early stage of X-ray astronomy, however the origin still remains unknown. Even though the Astro-E and AXAF are launched, ASCA still has an advantage of the large effective area for high energy X-ray band in the large field of view. ASCA deep observation of the Galactic Ridge has not been performed yet. It give an opportunity to reveal the small spatial structure of the Galactic Ridge X-ray emission and the origin which has been a mystery for about twenty years.
