Galactic bulge

ABSTRACT

It is well known that in the Milky Way, there are three regions containing diffuse hot plasma associated with the 6.7 keV line emission: the galactic plane, the galactic center region, and the galactic bulge. We propose the mapping observation of the galacitc bulge with ASCA. Recent analysis of the ASCA archival data has revealed that at least two emission components exist far beyond the scale height of 10 deg latitude. This suggest that the total energy contained in this region would be the most enormous, greater than that contained in the galactic plane.
