A LONG OBSERVATION OF THE HIGHLY VARIABLE DWARF SEYFERT NUCLEUS OF NGC4395

ABSTRACT

NGC4395 has been known as the least luminous Seyfert galaxy to date. A half-day ASCA observation of this galaxy revealed its highly variable X-ray nature in contrast to the other low luminosity active galaxies. It suggests an intermediate black hole mass of the order of 10,000 Msun and thus a scaled-down version of higher luminosity Seyfert nuclei. The X-ray spectrum shows strong evidence for an warm absorber and a Fe K line, and a very clear change in the warm absorber has been found in response to the continuum flaring. Here, we propose a week-long observation of NGC4395 to cover the interesting frequency range of the power spectrum, and to investigate the iron K line profile and the variable warm absorber.
