* The HEASARC Archive, with a few exceptions,is resident on RAID units,
and thus available online instantly. A CD jukebox is used as a backup and/or
secondary archive for a number of missions such as ASCA and ROSAT.
The total RAID capacity is currently 3.8 Terabytes, and there is about 0.5 TB
spare capacity.
* A backup of (most of) the archive, also resident on a RAID systems, is now in place,
and can be quickly switched to in the event of a failure of the primary archive. The
backup archive is currently co-located with the primary archive, but will at some point
be moved to another building. The HEASARC has also provided NSSDC with
permanent media copies of its holdings.
* Due to the growth in our usage causing high load factors, performance of the main
HEASARC server legacy has been on occasions rather sluggish.
