The particle induced PSPC background is expected to be rather low because
of very efficient background rejection; a background rejection
efficiency of up to 99.5 percent was measured on the ground.
In orbit the particle
background rate is roughly

however, guest observers should be aware that the
actual particle background rate varies with geomagnetic
