The Kepler Supernova Remnant

Kepler

Image credit: Max-Planck-Institut für extraterrestrische Physik (MPE)

This High-Resolution Imager (HRI) image shows the considerable detailed structure of the Kepler supernova remnant. The supernova was observed by the German astronomer Johannes Kepler in the year 1604. Today we see the X-rays produced by the hot plasma left over from the explosion.
