ROSAT Guest Observer Facility

Status Report #7:

July 17th 1991

Satellite status:

After a long slew on July 5th, ROSAT became lost due to earthblock and lack of guide stars. Consequently the satellite went into safe mode as it had been too long without reference stars. Recovery procedures were carried out over the weekend of July 6-7th. On July 8th, the first portion of the modified attitude control software was uplinked although for safety reasons the PSPC high voltage was left off and the filter wheel was left closed. All systems were up and running again on July 9th and observations have been continuing successfully in the long-pointing mode ever since. The uploading of new software at this point enabled different pointing constraints to come into play, which allow scheduling of some southern hemisphere targets. GSOC is now using +/- 12 degrees for their sun window, still requiring guide stars for contact orbits.
