Status Report #9:

August 19th 1991.

SASS PROCESSING STATUS

Processing of AO1 data has stopped after processing days 256 through 277. This decision was reached in conjunction with MPE and was due to the presence of a bug in SASS that produced incorrect source positions (~4 arcminutes) in the PSPC data. SASS 5.2 is being installed and tested and processing will resume August 26. The HRI data should have no major bugs in it. Observers are advised to to look at their PSPC data extra carefully. In order to catch up with the heavy data load, the USRSDC will process all HRI data and limit further processing of PSPC data to only US observations (starting with day 256) for the immediate future.

AO2/AO3

The official notifications concerning AO2 targets and funding were mailed from NASA headquarters earlier this week. Included with the notifications are the peer review evaluation forms. Funding of AO2 proposals will commence almost immediately, beginning with proposals for participation in analysis of survey data, and proposals with scheduled or observed AO2 targets. An effort will be made to have funding of pointed observation proposals available as closely as possible with the release of the data.

A release date for AO3 has not yet been set. AO3 will be released once a six-month timeline for the AO2 observing period becomes available. Based on the current schedule for the incorporation of the new attitude control software into the ROSAT operations and the subsequent modification of the timeline generation software to reflect whatever new operating constraints are necessary, it is unlikely that a six-month timeline will be available before November 1. Proposers will have 2.5-3 months to respond to the announcement.
