HEASARC Technical Resources: Software Libraries

A number of software libraries are included as part of the software packages distributed by the OGIP. These are generally written in an ANSI-standard language (FORTRAN in most cases) and contain general utility routines along with several to read and write OGIP-approved FITS files.

Libraries distributed with XANADU

• FITSIO: general interface routines to FITS files. (It should be noted that due to different distribution timescales, occasionally the version of FITSIO distributed via XANADU may be slightly older than the latest released version of FITSIO).
• PGPLOT
• XANLIB
• XPI

Libraries distributed with FTOOLS

• ASCA
• CALLIB: Designed to contain mainly calibration-related routines, but has grow to include a large number of more general utilities including reading & writing routines for many OGIP-approved FITS files.
• FITSIO: general interface routines to FITS files. (It should be noted that due to different distribution timescales, occasionally the version of FITSIO distributed via FTOOLS may be slightly older than the latest released version of FITSIO).
