Come help us celebrate the spectacular accomplishments and successful conclusion of the RXTE mission with two days of special events. All events are open to everyone, but (with the exception of the visitor center event), all attendees must have a GSFC regular or visitor badge. If you need a visitor badge, please see our Visitor Badge section ASAP. A block of hotel rooms will also be available for out of town attendees; please book your hotel rooms by Monday, February 27, 2012.

What's New:

Thursday, March 29 -- "16 Years of Discovery with RXTE" Symposium
9:30 AM - 5:30 PM, GSFC Bldg. 33 room H114

A day-and-a-half symposium featuring solicited talks and contributed poster papers on all aspects of RXTE science. (Symposium continues Friday morning.)

    To register:

    Attendees with GSFC badges: Please send e-mail to Lynette Queen saying you plan to attend the RXTE symposium and give your name and the fact that you have a GSFC badge; this will allow us to track attendence for the event. (And stock enough coffee!)

    Attendees who need a Visitor Badge: Please obtain a visitor badge ASAP by following the directions in our Visitor Badges section, below.

    To submit a poster:

    Send e-mail with your name, institution, poster abstract, and subject field "RXTE 16 poster" to Tod Strohmayer.

Thursday March 29th -- Reception and Dinner

    Beer, wine, dinner, dessert, reunion and celebration - all are invited! Cost is $30 per person. Please use the form below to purchase tickets:

    You will need a GSFC regular or visitor badge to attend the banquet; if you don't currently have a visitor badge, please immediately follow the directions in our Visitor Badges section.

Friday, March 30 -- "16 Years of Discovery with RXTE" Symposium (continued)

Friday, March 30th -- Visitor Center viewing of RXTE display *
2:00 - 3:00 PM, GSFC Vistor Center

    The Goddard Space Flight Center Visitor Center is adding an RXTE display, complete with a model of the spacecraft and featuring graphics of RXTE results. A reception with refreshments will allow guests to mingle and explore the exhibit.

    *Note: The Visitor Center display is currently under construction, so this event is contingent on the completion of the exhibit by March 30, which at this time appears likely.

Friday March 30th -- GSFC Scientific Colloquium -- "RXTE: Taking the Pulse of the Universe" (by Tod Strohmayer and Jean Swank)
3:30 - 4:30 PM, GSFC Building 3 Auditorium

    Our celebration concludes with Tod and Jean giving a summary of the RXTE mission for the GSFC weekly scientific colloquium. If this is the only event you plan to attend and you do NOT have a GSFC badge, please follow our directions below for obtaining a visitor badge.

Visitor Badges for access to GSFC

Visitors to GSFC will need a security badge to access the Center (i.e., to attend the Symposium, Dinner, and/or Colloquium). To obtain a visitor badge, please send e-mail ASAP to Lynette Queen and include the following information:
  • Subject: Visitor Badge for RXTE 16 Years Symposium
  • Full Legal Name
  • Institutional Affiliation
  • Citizenship
  • Contact number
  • Events you plan to attend (symposium, dinner, colloquium)

Please make your reservations by Monday, February 27, 2012. After that date, the hotel will no longer hold rooms for us. If you need to make a reservation after February 27, the hotel will honor the conference rate, provided they have rooms available.

Transportation

There are airport shuttle services to the Holiday Inn, Greenbelt from all area airports (Dulles, BWI, and Reagan National). Details, including an estimate of price, are available at the Holiday Inn, Greenbelt (contact info, above). During your stay at Holiday Inn, Greenbelt, transportation to GSFC is free via the Holiday Inn shuttle.
