ASCA weekly

Dear ASCA users,

I am sending an ASCA short-term observation schedule for the period of
May 1 to May 11.

On April 5 we have met with a two-bit error on one of the on-borad CPU that
controls GIS sensors (CPU2 of GIS) during SAA passage of ASCA. Unfortunately,
this arised effect to destroy data handling parameters in the memory
and caused mulfunction in the software that controls GIS data handling.
By this trouble, data of GIS2 sensor became unusable (GIS3 was all right)
after that time for two days from Saturday to Sunday. During the KSC
aquisitions of ASCA on April 7 (Sunday night to Monday morning) the
software for the GIS CPU was reloaded from on-board buffer memory and the
data handling system for GIS2 has started to function normally after the
third pass of ASCA at KSC. Details of this event and the correspondence were
reported by Tashiro and the GIS team (in Japanese). Observations with SIS
and GIS3 were normally performed and data were obtained during the period.
After the third pass on April 7 all GIS and SIS sensors have been functioning
normally.

F. Nagase
