HEASARC News: NuSTAR Cycle 1 announcement

NuSTAR Guest Observer Program - Cycle 1

Proposal Due Date: November 25, 2014

NASA is pleased to announce the initial solicitation of proposals from the scientific community for guest observations utilizing the NuSTAR observatory. Approximately 6.5 Ms of NuSTAR observing time will be made available for the Cycle 1 GO program during the period April 1, 2015 ? March 31, 2016. Note also that up to 500 ks of observing time on Suzaku is being made available to NuSTAR Cycle 1 proposers for investigations requiring joint NuSTAR/Suzaku observations. In addition to the Cycle 1 observing time allocation, up to 2 Ms of observing time will be made available for award through the XMM and Chandra GO programs for joint NuSTAR investigations.

Subject to the availability of funds, NASA has allocated $1.5M for the support of NuSTAR Cycle 1 investigations (joint NuSTAR investigations with XMM/Chandra will be eligible for support under the corresponding GO program). NuSTAR Guest Observer proposals are solicited from Principal Investigators affiliated with either U.S. or foreign institutions. Funding eligibility is limited to PIs of accepted investigations with priority A or B targets affiliated with, and located at, U.S. institutions. Observations of priority C targets will be performed on a "best-efforts? basis. PIs of investigations with priority C targets only are ineligible for support under the Cycle 1 NuSTAR GO Program.

The deadline for submitting Phase 1 science proposals for NuSTAR Cycle 1 is 4:30PM EDT on November 25, 2014.

Volunteer Reviewers:

The NuSTAR Guest Observer Program Office is seeking qualified individuals to serve on the Cycle 1 Science Peer Panel. A review by competent peers benefits the entire science community by ensuring that the investigations carried out with NuSTAR fully exploit its unique capabilities and yield the highest quality science. We request your assistance in supporting this process by serving as a Phase 1 (Science) Peer Reviewer. The NuSTAR Cycle 1 science peer review is currently planned for February 2015. Reviewers must have received their PhD at the time of the review. To be considered as a Reviewer for NuSTAR Cycle 1, please send an email with your name, affiliation, and area of expertise to nustar_review@athena.gsfc.nasa.gov.
