Status Report 120

                       ROSAT Status Report # 120
                            March 7th 1995

     **** CORRECTION TO ORIGINAL SOLICITATION FOR THE ROSAT ****
                       GUEST OBSERVER PROGRAM

The original "Solicitation for the ROSAT Guest Observer Program"
contains a typo in Appendix D. The PIMMS and Viewing software, originally
stated as being in the "/rosat/nra_info" directory on legacy.gsfc.nasa.gov,
can instead be found in directories:

               PIMMS:     /asca/nra_info/pimms
		   or     /xte/nra/software/pimms

             Viewing:     /asca/nra_info/viewing

We sincerely regret any inconvenience.

ROSAT AO - 6
============
These days we are sending out the Announcement of Opportunity for new
ROSAT proposals for the next 1 year time span starting in October
1995. The announcement pertains to the ROSAT X-ray telescope with the
HRI detector and the Wide Field Camera. The deadline for AO-6 has been
fixed to 15 May 1995.

Information on the sky fields already observed by ROSAT or in the
scheduling list until October 1995 can be looked at in directory
'timeline' in the ROSAT Service Area. The file 'master_obs.list'
lists all observations that have been processed by SASS (a new update
should be available next week). The files 'ao5_hri1.summary' for the
first half of AO-5 and ao5_hri2.summary (in preparation) for the
second half cover the recent and future timeline scheduling.

ROSAT DATA ARCHIVE (RDA)
========================
The ROSAT Data Archive contains now all XRT observations that have
become public till end of December 1994 (observations with US PIs),
respectively till end of January 1995 (German/UK observations).

ROSAT WFC 2RE CATALOGUE OF EUV SOURCES
======================================
Reprocessing of the ROSAT Wide Field Camera (WFC) all-sky survey database
has resulted in a new catalogue, designated `2RE', containing 479 sources
(Pye et al. 1995, MNRAS, in press). 120 of them were not reported in the
previous, first WFC Bright Source Catalogue (BSC, Pounds et al. 1993,
MNRAS, 260, 77); of these, 97 also do not appear in the first EUVE
Catalogue (Bowyer et al. 1994, ApJS, 93, 569) and hence have not
previously been reported at EUV wavelengths. 387 sources are now detected
in both WFC survey wavebands. 444 sources have proposed identifications;
these include 75 with late-type stars and 6 with hot white-dwarf stars,
amongst the 120 new, `post-BSC' sources. 31 sources are found to be
variable; all are identified, most with cataclysmic-variable stars or
late-type stars (McGale et al. 1995, MNRAS, submitted).

The 2RE Catalogue and a preprint version of the MNRAS paper are available
on-line via ftp, WWW and the LEDAS database node. A summary of the
various access methods is given below.

     Via ftp
        ftp ledas-ftp.star.le.ac.uk

        Password: username@site
        cd rosat/2re

The file README contains a brief description of each file in the directory.
These include: postscript (.ps) files of the text, main catalogue table
and figures, and a plain ASCII text (.txt) version of the catalogue table.

Postscript and HTML versions of the paper (including the table and figures)
can be viewed from the ROSAT-WFC EUV Survey home page
(http://ledas-www.star.le.ac.uk/rosat_euv). The catalogue, roswfc2re, can
also be browsed from the Web using the ARNIE system, available from URL

EXSAS - VMS VERSION
===================
Now EXSAS 95JAN has also been tested successfully under VMS.
