Joint Chandra/RXTE Proposals

Dear Researcher,

As you prepare your Chandra Cycle 6 proposals, I'd like to
draw your attention to a unique opportunity to capitalize on the
combined strengths of RXTE and Chandra. By joint agreement between
the Chandra X-ray Center and the RXTE Project, proposers interested
in making use of contemporaneous RXTE time as part of their Chandra
science investigation may submit a single proposal in response to
the Chandra Cycle 6 call for proposals. The award of RXTE time will
be made to highly ranked Chandra proposals, and will be subject to
approval of the RXTE Project Scientist.

Please consider making use of this opportunity if the scientific
goals of your Chandra program can be enhanced by the capabilities of
RXTE. RXTE time awarded as part of this program will become part of
RXTE Cycle 9, and will have a one-year proprietary period.

More information on the joint proposal process can be found in
Chapter 4 of the Chandra Cycle 6 Call for Proposals online at

Detailed technical information on RXTE instruments and
capabilities can be found at

Please send any technical questions about RXTE to the helpdesk
at xtehelp@athena.gsfc.nasa.gov.
