ASCA AO-8, additional JPN targets

Dear ASCA users,

After the mulfunction of Astro-E, US colleagues and community have
kindly reduced the target number and/or exposure time of US priority-A
targets (see below the Table 1) for about 2000 ks. Recently, we have
finally selected projects/targets (see below Table 2) that fullfil the
offered 2000 ks. The revised list of AO-8 accepted priority-A and
priority-B targets are shown below in TABLE 3.

The rough long-term timeline for the later half of the AO-8 period will
be released public soon by Paul Hilton and Chiho Matsumoto. Hereafter, we
will release monthly a detailed sort-term observation schedule for about
a month.

Some comments on the new list:
(1) We have shifted to priority-A three Japanese targets, VIRGO M87 SW,
M33, and HCG 62, which were priority-B in previous list. Therefore they
disappear from the priority-B target pool.

(2) The observation of Sharpley Supercluster is a sigle pointing. This is
a kind of supplemental observation based on the study of our previous ASCA
observations of the region.

(3) SS Cygni, and Starburst galaxies have plans of complicated observation
intervals. They are time critical and need multi-pointings.

(4) The policy of AO-8 for data archiving is adopted to the additional
observations; i.e., all the AO-8 data are to the public as soon as
they have been processed. Therefore, proposers for these additional
observations should act merely as observation planners, like other long
observations.

(5) However, we keep the old rule (i.e.,1/1.5 yrs exclusive data right)
for supplemental observations of AO-7 carried-over targets. At present
we have only a few such targets:
        K. Leightly RE 1034+39 20 ks done
        S. Yamauchi G.R. #5 60 ks to be in schedule
        S. Vrtilek 4U1700-37 60 ks will be done only if
                                                HST time is approved
        H. Kunieda NGC 5548 100 ks cancelled
        C. Done EF Eri 60 ks will be done only when
                                                this source becomes bright

Best regards,
Fumiaki

Note

The LMC, SMC, and the Galactic Center Iron line surveys are approved as a
set of 11, 5, and 13 times 40 ksec pointings, respectively. For the NEP
Clusters, 7 times 100 ksec pointings have been approved. This table contains
only the representative pointing positions for these projects.
