Multiwavelength Workshop
Dear Multiwavelength Colleague,
This email is to announce:
The Second Multiwavelength Workshop for Next Generation Gamma-Ray
Experiments, Adler Planetarium, Chicago, Illinois
August 9-10, 2007
Over the past few years, the field of high-energy gamma-ray astronomy
has seen exciting results coming from a new generation of
ground-based gamma-ray detectors. By the end of 2007, GLAST expects
to be in orbit complementing the wealth of ground-based data from
CANGAROO, HESS, MAGIC, and VERITAS. At the same time, a number of
X-ray satellites will be in operation, complementing these new
gamma-ray instruments. A better understanding of many high-energy
sources can be obtained by making contemporaneous observations with
multiple X-ray and gamma-ray instruments as well as optical,
infrared, and radio telescopes.
This workshop is a follow-on from a similar workshop five years ago
and is intended as an opportunity for continued information exchange
within the community to get the best possible science returns from
the wealth of data coming in from these next generation experiments.
The workshop will be geared towards gaining an understanding of the
current and future capabilities of the various instruments and their
observational strategies. With this information, mechanisms will be
discussed for coordinating gamma-ray observations with ground-based
and space-based observatories at other wavelengths - including X-ray,
optical, infrared, and radio groups. Additionally, strategies will be
discussed to coordinate observations with multi-messenger
experiments such as IceCube and Auger.
The organizers of this workshop would like to invite you specifically
to participate, because you are part of the gamma-ray multiwavelength
mailing list set up after the first workshop. Because space limits
the attendance to 45, we wanted to make sure that we had a
representative mix of scientists with a broad knowledge of the
gamma-ray, x-ray, optical, infrared, and radio communities. If you
are unable to attend this workshop, please suggest another individual
from your field who would be appropriate. By keeping this workshop
small, we hope to optimize the opportunities for personal
interactions and active planning that can then be shared with the
whole astrophysical community.
A website with more information including registration and hotel
information is now available at:

A block of hotel rooms at a special group rate is available until
July 13, so please register as soon as possible!
