XMM-Newton AO-8 OTAC Results
============================

The list of XMM-Newton proposals accepted by the AO-8 Observing Time
Allocation Committee (OTAC) and associated proposal abstracts are
available at:

http://xmm.esac.esa.int/external/xmm_news/otac_results/ao8_results/

The Principal Investigators of submitted proposals have been
informed about the results of the OTAC evaluation by e-mail. The
e-mail contains the details about the second phase proposal
submission for successful observations, which will be done via the
XMM-Newton Remote Proposal Submission System (XRPS). The XRPS will
be closed on the 6th of February 2009 at 13:00 UT.

AO-8 observations will start to be routinely performed in May 2009.

Conference announcement: X-ray Astronomy 2009: Present status,
multiwavelength approach, and future perspectives
==============================================================

The INAF (Osservatorio Astronomico di Bologna and Istituto di
Astrofisica Spaziale e Fisica Cosmica di Bologna) and the Astronomy
Department of the University of Bologna, under the auspices of
Bologna's Local Authorities, are pleased to announce the conference:

                      "X-ray Astronomy 2009:
Present status, multiwavelength approach, and future perspectives"

to be held on 2009 September 7-11 in Bologna, Italy.

Third in a decadal series of X-ray astronomy conferences held in
Bologna, the meeting will highlight the contributions of XMM-Newton,
Chandra and Suzaku observatories over the last ten years and
celebrate the International Year of Astronomy (IYA2009). Major
observational and theoretical aspects of X-ray emission from a wide
range of cosmic sources will be addressed. Emphasis will be given to
multiwavelength studies of cosmic sources and associated synergies
with major facilities at all wavelengths, and on the perspectives for
future high energy astrophysics missions.

More information is available from the conference web site at:

http://www.iasfbo.inaf.it/events/xray2009/

Conference announcement: The energetic cosmos: from Suzaku to ASTRO-H
=====================================================================

The conference "The energetic cosmos: from Suzaku to ASTRO-H" will be
held on 2009 June 29 - July 2 in Otaru, Hokkaido, Japan.

The conference will highlight common physics among different types of
objects, rather than treating them separately. Focusing mainly on the
results obtained with Suzaku, the conference will also cover new
results from related missions such as Chandra, XMM-Newton, INTEGRAL,
Swift, Fermi and others.

More information is available from the conference web site at:

http://www-utheal.phys.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp/SuzakuConference2009

Conference announcement: Accretion and ejection in AGN:
A global view
=======================================================

The Brera Astronomical Observatory (INAF) and the Department of
Physics and Mathematics of Insubria University are pleased to
announce the conference:

       "Accretion and ejection in AGN: A global view"

to be held on 2009 June 22-26 in Como-Centro Volta.

The workshop will cover major observational and theoretical aspects
of fuelling, accretion disks, outflows and relativistic jets in AGN,
with emphasis on their interconnection and relation to environment.
These topics are essentially multiwavelength in nature but rely
especially on the high-energy side of the electromagnetic spectrum
(X-rays, GeV and TeV gamma-rays). In particular, results from the
AGILE and FERMI Gamma-Ray Telescopes and the second generation
of Cherenkov telescope arrays will be presented.

More information is available from the conference web site at:

Yours sincerely,
XMM-Newton SOC
