XMM-Newton AO-16 closure
------------------------

The XMM-Newton sixteenth Announcement of Opportunity (AO-16) closed on
the 7th of October 2016.

In total, 442 valid proposals were submitted, requesting 91 Ms of
science time. This Announcement of Opportunity covers a period of one
year, with 14.5 Ms of observing time available for distribution. The
over-subscription factor is 6.3.

A total of 67 proposals for Large Programmes were received.
Triggered/ToO observations were requested in 53 proposals. For the
joint programmes, 82 proposals were submitted: 18 requested time for the
XMM-HST programme, 12 for the XMM-SWIFT programme, 6 for the XMM-VLT
programme, 14 for the XMM-Chandra programme and 44 for the XMM-NuSTAR
programme.

SOC received proposals from 333 different principal investigators from
32 countries, mostly ESA member and associated states, the United States
and Japan. The number of countries involved increases to 40 if
co-investigators are taken into account as well. Considering principal
investigators and co-investigators, about 1500 individual scientists
were involved in the response to the sixteenth Announcement of
Opportunity.

Yours sincerely,

XMM-Newton SOC
