OBSERVATION OF SHRAPNEL FROM THE VELA SNR

ABSTRACT

There are several cusps structure outside the Vela SNR. They are strongly considered as shrapnels launched in the SN explosion. We observed A and D so far. A mainly consists of Si and D is heavily overabundant of Mg and Ne. Judging from the size and the abundance, the small size of shrapnel favors the high Z elements suggesting that the small shrapnel comes from the far inside of the star. There are four shrapnels observable with Asca while two of them were observed. We propose to observe the rest of two: they are B and E. E is in between A and D in size while B is bigger than D. The stellar structure and the instability produced inside the star will be really seen in X-ray regions which has been studied only in the theoretical frame work.
