TWO X-RAY PULSARS WITH CONTROVERSIAL ORIGINS

ABSTRACT

We propose to observe the X-ray binary pulsars 1E1024.0-5732 and 2S0114+650 whose origins are controversial. These are the only persistent X-ray binary pulsars which are listed in the catalogue by van Paradijs (1995) and have not been observed with ASCA. 1E1024.0-5732/WACK 2134 may be the first X-ray selected Wolf-Rayet Star or a high mass X-ray binary system having the shortest spin-period (61 msec). 2S0114+650 exhibits marginal 850 sec coherent pulsations and periodic X-ray flares accompanying iron line intensity variations. Using the unique timing and spectral capabilities of ASCA, we will try to resolve origins of these mysterious sources.
