INVESTIGATING THE X-RAY EMISSION FEATURES IN MCG-2-58-22 WITH ASCA AND XTE

ABSTRACT

A 40 ks ASCA observation of the unabsorbed and presumably face-on Seyfert 1 galaxy MCG-2-58-22 is proposed. Our primary goals are to study the continuum shape and determine the Fe Kalpha line profile (and possibly variability if the source is in a high flux state) in conjunction with XTE at a level that is not possible with existing PV data. The current ASCA data allow no useable constraints to be placed on the iron line parameters. We will also monitor the long-term flux variability of the line-like soft excess that almost disappeared between the Einstein and ASCA observations spaced 14 years apart.
