A HARD X-RAY SPECTRUM OF THE HIDDEN QUASAR IN THE NARROW LINE RADIO GALAXY 3C321
ABSTRACT
3C321 is one of very few examples of a NLRG in which an obscured quasar has been demonstrated to exist. Its extended continuum polarization properties are similar to those of Cygnus A, but also shows polarized emission from the BLR in the visible. It is of importance to observe it at hard X-ray energies, since we only have indirect estimates for the luminosity of its obscured nucleus. Unlike Seyfert AGN, currently the statistics on hard X-ray properties of powerful NLRGs are extremely sparse. The proposed observations will show whether 3C321's hard X-ray properties are similar to those of Seyfert 2s observed by Asca, or whether it is like NGC1068, with an extremely high absorbing column.
