X-RAY OBSERVATION OF OPTICALLY-SELECTED QUASARS

ABSTRACT

We propose to use ASCA to determine the hard X-ray properties of an optically-selected sample of quasars. The target sources are well studied in the radio, optical, UV and soft X-ray regimes, but to date, little information exists on their hard X-ray properties. Most AGN have been chosen for observation by ASCA based on their known peculiarities. We propose to observe 3 optically selected quasars which, when combined with previous ASCA observations, will give a small, but complete sample of 9 quasars for the archives. However, a number of fundamental questions concerning the continua of the targets can be addressed by this proposal alone.
