X-RAY EMISSION AND ABSORPTION IN PKS 1830-211: A GRAVITATIONAL LENS, MILLIMETER-WAVE AND EGRET SOURCE

ABSTRACT

PKS1830-211 is a gravitationally lensing system which emits gamma-rays (> 100 MeV) and radio waves. We detected molecular lines (HCN, H2CO, CS) from this lensing object with the Nobeyama 45m telescope. To derive molecular abundances in the lensing object at z=0.89, we propose ASCA observation of PKS1830-211. Since X-ray emission from the lensed EGRET blazer is expected well above ASCA sensitivity, X-ray absorption in low energy bands gives us a total column density of the lensing object. We can also study multi-wavelength spectrum of the lensed blazer and a gravitationally lensing system.
