A SEARCH FOR HARD X-RAY EMISSION IN A GAS-RICH RADIO-LOUD QUASAR

ABSTRACT

3C 48 is known to be the first identified Quasar, having strong radio source in the center. Also known as a gas-rich and IRAS ultra luminous galaxy. Especially, the molecular mass of the galaxy is very large. This property is unusual compared with other radio-loud Quasars. We noted that this gas-rich property comes from on-going starburst, and radio-loudness is due to the central AGN fueled by a great deal of molecular gas. To probe the link between the IRAS Ultra luminous galaxy and the radio-loud Quasar, this is the best candidate. Asca would be a powerful tool to detect hard X-ray emission suggesting the strong AGN for FIR luminosity in the galaxy. Thus, ASCA observation of 3C 48 is one of the ways to solve evolutionaly synthesis between IRAS luminous galaxies and radio-loud Quasars.
