STUDY OF IRON EJECTION PROCESSES FROM GALAXIES BY OFFSET OBSERVATIONS OF NEARBY BRIGHT GROUP OF GALAXIES: HCG62

ABSTRACT

The study of metal abundances in intracluster medium (ICM) is important for chemical evolution of the ICM. Recent ASCA observations found that both type-II (SNe II) and type-Ia (SNe Ia) supernovae contribute to metals in the ICM significantly, and it is suggested that most Si came from SNe II. Due to uncertainties of predicted metal yield, the origin of Fe is not constrained well. On the other hand, ASCA found that there is a large scale abundance gradient in AWM7 cluster. This indicates that most Fe stay around galaxies and suggests that Fe is supplied mildly through SNe Ia. To confirm this, we propose to observe compact galaxy groups HCG62, whose galaxies locate only at the central region.
