AN ASCA LONG OBSERVATION OF THE ULTRASOFT NARROW-LINE SEYFERT 1 GALAXY H 0707-495

ABSTRACT

ROSAT and ASCA observations of Narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1) show them to have strong soft X-ray excess components, steep 2-10 keV power-law components, dramatic X-ray variability events, and unusual spectral complexity around 1.1 keV. Some of their differences from more typical Seyfert 1s may be due to extreme values of an important physical parameter such as Eddington accretion fraction. We propose a long ASCA observation of H 0707-495, one of the most extreme and interesting NLS1. H 0707-495 is the brightest NLS1 which shows the complex 1.1 keV spectral residuals, and it has been suggested that these may be due to oxygen absorption in a relativistic outflow. We want to better study the residuals as well as the extreme continuum shape and strong, possibly nonlinear, variability.
