NO MORE MASSIVE X-RAY BINARY PULSARS (MXBP)? - ASCA SEARCH BASED ON THE ROSAT GALACTIC PLANE SURVEY -

ABSTRACT

Massive X-ray binaries with compact stars are bright X-ray sources in our Galaxy. However, the population of this class of objects is rather small. Nevertheless, these objects yield important information on the collapsed relativistic stars and survey of such sources is further needed to investigate the formation and evolution of massive binaries with compact stars. We propse here to observe three OB star X-ray binaries (LS 5039, BSD 24-491 and LS1698) which are selected from the ROSAT Galactic Plane survey catalog. These three sources are expected to be massive X-ray binary pulsars. Search of coherent pulsations and spectral analysis will be attemped to identify the properties of these massive binaries, when the proposed observations are carried out.
