THE X-RAY SPECTRUM OF GEV 1417-6100

ABSTRACT

The non-thermal nebula associated with the EGRET source GEV 1417-6100 is an excellent candidate for a pulsar wind nebula. ASCA spectra can constrain the age and field strength of the particle accelerator powering the synchrotron emission. The data will set the stage for the detection of a central pulsar: while a period search is not guaranteed of success, the data set should allow a Pdot measurement that will help in detection of gamma-ray pulsations.
