X-RAY ECLIPSES IN CF TUC

ABSTRACT

We propose to use the ASCA satellite to systematically study the X-ray light curve of the the eclipsing binary CF Tuc concentrating on the time of the optical primary minimum. The main goal of the proposed study is to see whether an X-ray eclipse of the smaller G star by the larger and more rapidly rotating K star is a persistent feature of the light curve. The persistent occurrence of X-ray eclipses has important consequences for the structural stability of CF Tuc's corona as well as its spatial confinement.
