Guest Observer support in Japan

After the calibration and verification phase there will be about 700 US observations per year and it is expected that up to 20 US astronomers will visit Japan every year to work on collaborative projects with the Japanese for periods of several months. The Japanese institutions do not have sufficient staff to support this number of visiting GOs, so one US Astro-D GOF scientist of post-doctoral level will be present in Japan to help GOs. As well as providing US GOs with assistance, the OGIP support staff could help with the day-to-day running of the observatory on a par with the Japanese scientists at ISAS.
