4.2.2 Example 2: My target isn't in the OSSE database

Suppose you hunt for your target in XWHEN as in Example 1a above and can't find it listed. All is not lost. OSSE has a very wide field of view, about tex2html_wrap_inline2050 by tex2html_wrap_inline2056, and not all objects in that field of view for a given pointing are listed in the target catalog.

First, you must search the OSSE target catalog for official targets close to your target of interest. Use XWHEN as described above to examine the detector pointing strategy. Would the pointing strategy used provide acceptable target and background pointings for analysis?

If OSSE had any pointings where your target is in that field of view, you can find it by creating a dummy target record for SPECANAL.

Igore> targdef = {Name:'Fuzzy Spot',RA: 325.123, Dec: -54.32, SrcID: 007}
Igore> SPECANAL, target = targdef, start_time='92/090',stop_time='92/100'

This run generates the complete set of output files described in the reference section.
